Geir Øgrim

Profile

Geir Øgrim
Clinical neuropsychologist, PhD

My research interests

Application of electroencephalography, more specifically quantitative EEG and Event Related Potentials (ERP), as a supplement in diagnosing neurodevelopmental disorders (ESSENCE). Application of such methods for prediction of medication response in ADHD. Relating EEG/ERP parameters to neuropsychological functions.
More general research interests: Diagnosing and treating ADHD and Tourette syndrome.
Neurofeedback and computerized cognitive training as treatment options.

Career

Geir Øgrim holds a specialty in clinical neuropsychology. He works at Østfold Hospital Trust, as part of a neuro-team at Åsebråten child psychiatry outpatient clinic. He now (2019) primarily works as a researcher and supervisor. His research focuses on EEG based methods (quantitative EEG and ERP) as supplementary diagnostic procedures in ESSENCE disorders. He has published on the use of such methods as predictors of medication response in ADHD and received grants in 2017 to offer the research-based predictors of medication response to ADHD patients before starting medication trials.

Geir worked for many years as head of the school psychology service in Halden, Norway. Since the mid-90’s he has worked in child and adolescent psychiatry. He is head of the professional board of the patient organization ADHD Norge. From 2000 to 2017 he was connected with NK – National Resource Centre for ADHD, Tourette syndrome and narcolepsy (as of 2015 known as NevSom). There he worked with the five-to-fifteen questionnaire (www.5-15.org), which is available in parent and teacher versions and has norms based on 4000 answers from Danish parents and teachers; the questionnaire is widely used in the Nordic countries to detect developmental abnormalities and behavioural problems.
Geir was head of the project “Clinical pathways for children and adolescents with ADHD” which has been used as a model in other parts of Norway. He defended his dissertation in 2014 with Christopher Gillberg as first opponent. The title was: “Electrophysiology in ADHD; Diagnosis, predictions and treatment”. Geir is currently (2019) supervising fellow neuropsychologist Linda Häger Krabberød as she works to complete her PhD project at the GNC.
