Professor Fred R Volkmar, world authority on autism to give the 6th Birgit Olsson Lecture on 16th November 2016

On the 16th of November 2016 at 2 pm Professor Fred R Volkmar will give the sixth Birgit Olsson lecture entitled “The changing face of autism” at the Wallenberg hall in Gothenburg.

Professor Fred R Volkmar received his MD and master’s degree in psychology at Stanford in 1976. Fred R Volkmar is currently Irving B. Harris Professor of Child Psychiatry, Pediatrics, and Psychology at the Yale University Child Study Center, School of Medicine. Before becoming the chairperson at the department he directed the internationally known autism clinic as well as the autism research at Yale. Professor Fred R Volkmar is the primary author of American Psychiatric Association’s DSM-IV autism and pervasive developmental disorders section. In addition, he has published over 200 scientific papers as well as a number of book chapters and books in the field of autism spectrum disorder focusing on genetics and other neurobiological aspects, diagnostic issues, treatment, course and outcome, adaptive skills, somatic comorbidity and language impairment. “Asperger’s syndrome” (Guilford Press) and the “Handbook of autism” (Wiley Publishing) are two examples of his most renowned books. He serves/has served as Editor/Associate editor of several scientific journals within the child psychology and psychiatry field.
